After thinking about my secondary experiences, I think that when it comes to working in an elementary setting, there will be more direct work with students on an every-day basis. I also think that depending on the school setting, as well as the student population, I will potentially have different needs to meet for my students and different library resources to work with.
For this experience I will be working at both Whittier Elementary and Brass Elementary school in Kenosha. Both populations I will be working with will probably need to focus on basic skills, with vocabulary, alphabetizing and other basic reading skills.
Overall, I think it'll be an interesting experience to compare to the secondary experience.

"Tangled Memories" STUDENT FILM PREMIER 5 hours
After much hard work, and teaching and learning about how various digital medias are used in the classroom, my students and I worked to achieve a grant in order to finance a community event to share the hard earned research and creative work with our community. This event had a phenomenal turnout. A diverse crowd of over 200 people came to embrace the student work. Students created online resources such as a Ning, designed posters and postcards, as well as worked with local television station Channel 20 and our local paper, the Kenosha News in order to create awareness about the event. As an educator seeing the support and final product my students and I created was a great success. It is a unique feat and accomplishment towards my experiences in SLMS.

End Reflection-Secondary Education
It is quite clear that the role of a School Library Media Specialist is quite dependent on the district they are in. The types of every-day tasks may very as well as the long term goal planning and financial responsibilities and management of the library and its resources. I would say that librarians must be able to adapt to a multitude of roles and settings, because not every library and media center or school district is faced with the same administration, financial or physical circumstance as well as the larger district goals, strengths and limitations.
I think it is necessary for SLM professionals to become familiar with individual policy and goals as well as to get involved with professional organizations that would help professionals to stay current in an ever changing institution. These connections can help SLM professionals meet the needs of its staff and students, to move forward as the information age evolves.

July 12-16: BONUS Experience-ADE Institute 2010

July 12-16: BONUS Experience
I attended the Apple Distinguished educator Summer Institute. During this professional development experience, I worked with a number of Library Media professionals, ranging from District coordinators, to school library and media specialists on projects concerning ways to integrate technologies into school libraries and classrooms. I also worked in a collaborative setting to create a video resources and presentation that addresses reasons why to create a more personalized learning environment, involving the integration of technology into an educational setting (see attached video and presentation). I also interviewed 3 professionals working in Libraries and media settings concerning their experiences concerning a typical day in their position, the issues they face, as well as changes they predict in the next 5 years. (See attached podcast of these interviews I created.) Overall, this experience was amazing, the innovation of the professionals I have worked with really is significant for also exploring the potentialPre- uses of technology, school libraries as well as 1:1 learning environments- something I am interested in for implementing in my own classroom.

Pre-Practicum Reflection-Secondary Education
Thus far in my career, I feel as though I've had a very unique experience, in terms of integrating a variety of technologies, information literacies, and library resources into the curriculum I teach.
During this practicum experience, I aim to gain more experience with the practical up keepings of the library, learn more about book selection, as well as mainitianign the library resources, as well as comparing the library layouts from different schools, and discuss the library experiences of the professionals I am working with, in order to learn more about how their experiences within the institution have changed as well as how different schools and institutions offer different experiences on the job.
I believe the organization or district for which one works, will shape the experience of the librarian and their daily as well as long-term duties. For example, larger districts may catalog all the books at the central office, where as the degree of responsibility for these tasks may be different in a smaller setting.
